NADADADA MOTEL 2013: CELEBRATING RENO ART AND ABSURDITY
Reno-based artists will again celebrate and create at the annual NadaDada Motel art event in specific downtown and midtown motels and venues, June 13 through 16, 2013. One of the most innovative and unique grass roots arts events in the nation, NadaDada Motel is perhaps best summed up with the six-word statement: “get a room- make a show”.
With a simple and brilliant idea, Nada-artists independently rent motel rooms in Reno and transform them into individual galleries, performance spaces and surrealistic art installations. Painting, sculptures, photography, print, music and performance art, blend and clash with political satire, social commentary beauty and the utterly weird.
Locations for NadaDada 2013 include two downtown venues- the Townhouse Motor Lodge on Second and Arlington, and Gallery 3, North Virginia St. near First St. There will be three midtown venues including the Best Bet Motor Lodge, 941 South Virginia St, The White House, 737 South Virginia St., and Happy Happy Joy Joy, 955 S. Virginia St. #102. Returning in 2013 is Wildflower Village at West Fourth St. near McCarran. One of the original Nada artists, Jeff Johnson, is planning to go room-less and will roam the venues and the city with his mobile art tribute to the Mizpah Hotel.
